2024: Modernisation and new carriages (old: 115 passengers, Gangloff) The Metro Alpin adventure began on 1 September 1981 with the start of construction. In March 1982, all the preparatory work was completed and the start of drilling was celebrated. After almost one and a half years, the breakthrough of the tunnel became a reality on 11 August 1983. Finally, after a good three years of construction, a new era in the history of LSF AG was heralded on 19 December 1984. With the commissioning of the Metro Alpin, the Mittelallalin area was opened up to snow sports. Skiing and snowboarding now became a year-round sport in Sass-Fee. (Source: Anniversary publication 50 years of Saas-Fee Bergbahnen AG) The cable car has an intermediate exit that leads through a tunnel to the left (when travelling in the direction of the mountain) out onto the Hohlaub Glacier and is only used by the first cable car in the morning to let mountaineers get off. |
