Longest lift without middle station on the Arlberg! The ropeway was built in 1954 by Pohlig as a 33-ATW. 1961 rebuilt by PHB as a 50-ATW and later rebuilt several times. Recently a new drive from Doppelmayr has been incorporated in a major refurbishment, a new drive of Steurer and new cabins from Carvatech have also been acquired. The lift is showed in several films, for example in \"Der schwarze Blitz\" with Toni Sailer from 1957. It is a scene shown which takes place in the cabin. On 2016-09-14 against 16:10 a light aircraft crashed (type Aquila) against the carrying cable of the system. The German pilot died at the accident site. Fortunately, the cabs and the passengers had been in the stations at that moment. The plant was no longer into operation for the rest of the season because of minor damage. |
